Position Description
The Position
Reporting to the Vice President, Administration and Finance, the Director, IT is responsible for leading the university's IT strategy, systems, and services. This role oversees IT staff and operations, ensuring the effective implementation, security, and maintenance of IT infrastructure, business and educational applications, and customer support services. The Director, IT works collaboratively across the University to recommend and align IT initiatives with Redeemer’s mission and strategic goals, fostering innovation and operational excellence in higher education technology.
This is a 100%FTE role
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of approximately seven IT staff, plus student workers, to provide responsive, high quality IT services to the Redeemer community.
- Develop and execute a strategic IT plan that aligns with the university’s mission and objectives, engaging stakeholders to define needs and priorities.
- Manage vendor relationships to optimize external expertise while maintaining focus on institutional goals
- Evaluate emerging technologies and their potential impact on faculty, staff, and students, recommending innovative solutions that enhance learning and operations.
- Ensure the security of the university's network by implementing proactive cybersecurity strategies and best practices.
- Oversee IT infrastructure, including network security, enterprise applications (email, LMS, ERP, SIS), and communications systems.
- Manage the university’s phone system, including maintenance, upgrades, and exploration of new communication technologies.
- Develop and oversee the IT budget, ensuring effective resource allocation.
- Utilize industry-standard project management methodologies to lead IT initiatives and drive efficiency.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Minimum of 10 years experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in higher education.
- Experience with programming languages such as PHP, HTML, SQL, and JavaScript is an asset.
- Strong background in IT systems administration, ITIL frameworks, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience partnering with senior leadership and stakeholders to define business processes and implement effective technology solutions. .
- Experience with strategic planning, project management, and proactive IT risk management.
Education, Training & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
- Supervisory training (e.g. time management, conflict resolution) is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Understanding of Redeemer University (mission, values, and Reformed Christian identity).
