Position Description

As the Full-Time Lead Receiver at Mission Thrift Store in Burlington, you will be responsible to unload and receive donations, distribute goods to the appropriate department or area, and complete bi-weekly furniture deliveries and donation pickups using a moving truck. The Lead Receiver will report to the Store Manager.

This is a full-time position:

  • Main Work Schedule is Monday to Thursday 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • and Saturday 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • There may be changes to the hours due to the needs of the store.
  • Located at Mission Thrift Store Burlington – 3305 Fairview St, Burlington, ON

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive donations and assist in unloading items from donor vehicles.
  • Perform basic sorting of donations to determine appropriate department placement.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area (inside and outside).
  • Ensure clear aisles in the receiving and backroom area.
  • Assist in preparing, loading, and counting recycled bags and materials.
  • Drive a moving truck to complete bi-weekly furniture pickups and deliveries.
  • Communicate respectfully with donors/customers during pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • Load and unload furniture and large donations safely.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support store operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

The Lead Receiver must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Experience in receiving, warehouse, or general labor in a retail or non-profit setting.
  • Physical strength and endurance to lift/move furniture and large donations.
  • Experience operating and driving large vehicles.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Solid interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to stay calm and polite when handling discrepancies.
  • Comfort working with volunteers and diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in a warehouse environment.
  • Experience in the non-profit/voluntary sector is considered an asset

Essential Functions

  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, squat, bend, lift, and reach.
  • Must be able to work in both hot and cold temperatures.
  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License and a clean driving record are required.
  • Comfortable driving a truck for pickups/deliveries.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
