Salary: The salary for this position ranges from $70,000 - $90,000, is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and is inclusive of benefits.

Living Hope Christian Fellowship (LHCF) is a vibrant, multicultural, and family-oriented church located in Surrey, BC, committed to fostering meaningful relationships with an extraordinary God. Our congregation-led church is comprised of approximately 130 regular attendees and our services are translated into Karen to meet the needs of our diverse church family. We strive to live out our motto—“Loving God and Sharing Him with Others”—through Sunday morning celebrations, weekly small group meetings, engaging children’s and youth ministries, and community outreach. Rooted in strong biblical teaching and community connection, our vision is to “be a gracious community of believers, demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ through service, and reaching out to the world around us to join in a deep, celebrative relationship with God.”
Position Overview:
The Senior Pastor will take on the role of spiritual overseer of the Church with responsibility for the direction of all its activities, ensuring that they operate in a way that displays LHCF’s vision and values. The Senior Pastor works closely with our staff by encouraging, equipping, mentoring and supporting them to fulfill their unique callings and LHCF’s vision in their specific areas of responsibility. The Senior Pastor will lead the congregation at large, caring for and encouraging them to live out our motto of, “Loving God and Sharing Him with Others.” With exceptional communication skills, the Senior Pastor will provide strong Biblical teaching that grows our congregants knowledge and understanding of Scripture and encourages, challenges and equips us to live the truth and grace of Scripture out in our everyday lives.
Key Responsibilities:
Messages
- Prepare and preach messages a minimum of three (3) Sundays per month.
- Coordinate a preaching schedule that incorporates and cultivates the preaching gifts of others within the church for the remaining Sundays.
- Small Group Leader Network
- Work alongside our Pastor of Discipleship to provide leadership, guidance, and training to congregation-led small groups and their leaders.
Celebration Service Planning
- Work with the worship leaders in planning and developing services that are meaningful, and help lead the congregation into a more meaningful relationship with God and each other.
- Assist the worship leaders in developing an order of service for each week.
Staff Leadership
- Lead the weekly staff prayer times and meetings.
- Provide oversight, mentoring and supervision to the staff.
- Overseers (Leadership Team)
- Serve as a member of the overseers team.
- Work with the staff to provide staff reports.
- Communicate with the chair prior to the meeting regarding any issues that need to be discussed by the overseers.
- Follow-up on any agenda items discussed at the meetings and assigned to the staff.
Visioning
- Take time to step back and hear from God for the vision and direction of the church.
- Work to develop the vision by encouraging people to grow their gifts and be active in ministry, as God calls them.
Spiritual Care
- Provide counsel and spiritual care to people as they face various challenges.
- Identify those individuals that need more in-depth or professional care and direct them to suitable resources.
Multicultural Ministry
- Work with the multicultural leaders in the congregation to assist them in providing pastoral support as required.
- Speak at special services and attend celebratory events (weddings, birthdays, etc.) from time to time to stay connected.
- Personal and Professional Development
- Commitment to personal devotions and prayer time.
- Attend meetings, classes, and seminars to continue to grow as a pastor.
- Pursue ongoing professional and spiritual development to continually grow in pastoral leadership.
Greater Church
- Connect with other MCBC pastors and attend pastoral retreats.
- Connect with other local pastors through the Surrey or Delta Pastors Network.
- Community Engagement
- The pastor will encourage and engage with the congregation in the Great Commission of reaching unchurched people.
- Specific work will depend partially on the strengths of the applicant.
Other
- Attend and officiate weddings and funerals as required.
- Attend MCBC meetings as required (meeting attendance can be delegated to one or two overseers).
Qualifications:
- Master of Divinity or equivalent degree from an accredited theological seminary or university is preferred.
- Alignment with the Confession of Faith from a Mennonite Perspective is a necessity.
- Be ordained in our church conference or willing to take the necessary steps to become ordained.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant pastoral and ministerial experience.
- Demonstrated experience in building and leading teams, providing direction, and effectively managing church activities and operations.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with a proven ability to preach and teach the Word of God.
- A heart for pastoral care, including providing counsel, visitation, and offering emotional and spiritual support for congregants.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster healthy relationships and mediate or resolve conflict within the church body.
- A deep understanding of Scripture and a lifestyle that reflects a commitment to biblical values and principles.
- The ability to engage meaningfully with our multicultural church congregation and the broader local community, representing the church in wider circles, and building relationships within the conference.
- The ability to develop and communicate a clear vision and mission for the church, and to guide the church in pursuing its goals.
- The ability to mentor and develop staff, volunteers, and church leaders.
