Position Description
Take advantage of this unique, full-time, professional opportunity at Mission Thrift Store! Our Grande Prairie (Alberta) store is looking for a highly motivated Volunteer Coordinator!
BFM Foundation Canada is a national Christian organization with over 50 Mission Thrift Stores across Canada. The net revenue from all Mission Thrift Stores is devoted to the Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation (Canada) and Bible League Canada. These funds are used to establish adult and children’s literacy programs, church planter training, and distribute Bibles in many places around the world. The stores are operated primarily by dedicated volunteers.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Volunteer Coordinator has a key role with the Grande Prairie Mission Thrift Store, aiding in community relations with the Store Manager. He/She must have strong interpersonal qualities and the ability to lead a wide range of volunteers through the Volunteer Orientation process. The Volunteer Coordinator is required to seek and recruit qualified volunteers in preparation for the store opening and/or for ongoing store operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Activities:
- Recruit a volunteer base for the Grande Prairie Mission Thrift Store
- Actively communicate with potential and new volunteers, setting up orientation and tour times
- Set up and complete Volunteer Orientation for the store, including a tour of the facility, going over Training and Safety manuals, and ensuring that all necessary paperwork is completed
- Input volunteer information into the database, ensuring that all files are maintained and up to date
- Maintain a volunteer succession program to continually strengthen the volunteer base, with the assistance of BFM Foundation - Mission Thrift Store Development Ltd.
- Assist in providing an efficient and safe working environment for the volunteers
- Be a promoter of the Mission Thrift Store, as well as the Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation (Canada) and Bible League Canada
- Communicate regularly with volunteers through check-in phone calls, emails, and personal appreciation for their commitment and availability
- Ensure that volunteer applications are completed and filed on an ongoing basis
- Work with and guide the Store Manager with an effective plan of scheduling volunteers to ensure that each workday is covered, effectively utilizing all volunteers
- Assist the Store Manager with a program of orienting and training for volunteers, and help create a positive, cooperative, and rewarding work experience for them
- Attend Volunteer Appreciation Events
Secondary Activities:
- Write summaries of active recruitment activities that are to be shared with the Store Manager and Board of Directors monthly
- Compile a list of volunteer names, contact information, and availability dates, and share it with the Store Manager
- Keep and maintain ongoing records of items to be brought forward

- Highly proficient computer skills are required, including Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Volunteer Management software (i.e., Better Impact)

COMPENSATION
- $20.00 per hour
- Access to a Health Spending Account will become effective after three months
APPOINTMENT
Upon appointment, the Volunteer Coordinator will sign an agreement with the Mission Thrift Store – Grande Prairie. In doing so, the Volunteer Coordinator agrees to respect the Foundational Statements of BFM Foundation (Canada), including the Statement of Faith. Hours worked will not exceed 40 hours per week, as per the contract agreement.
