Position Description
The missional pastor is called to shepherd our church through biblical teaching, spiritual care, and gospel-centered leadership. This role invites a person grounded in Christ - someone who leads with vision and humility and with strength and tenderness. We value a leader who is shaped by the transforming work of the gospel - past and present - and who is committed to walking with others in that same journey. Preaching, leadership development, and strategic direction are important, but so is a heart for discipleship, a posture of collaboration, and a deep love for the church. We are looking not for perfection, but for a faithful guide - someone eager to raise up leaders, cultivate community, and help us live out our mission together.
Key Responsibilities:
Preaching and Teaching
- Deliver biblically sound, engaging, and relevant sermons applicable to our daily
- lives.
- Oversee the development of preaching schedules and sermon series.
Vision and Discipleship
- Lead with a clear sense of God’s calling for our church, partnering closely with
- Council and staff to discern and pursue God’s will in our mission and vision.
- Cultivate a healthy, prayerful culture among staff and volunteers, committed to
- encouragement, growth, and shared accountability.
- Be a discipling leader who loves people and is committed to developing staff,
- leaders, and disciples - equipping them to raise up others in turn.
Pastoral Care
- Shepherd the congregation by providing counsel in spiritual matters, visitation,
- and prayer.
- Officiate weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other pastoral functions.
- Equip and empower others to provide care and discipleship throughout the
- church.
Church Administration & Collaboration
- Collaborate with church leadership and teams on budgeting, planning, and
- operational decisions.
- Represent the church in the broader community and denominational
- relationships.
- Ensure alignment of ministries with the church’s mission and values.
Qualifications
- A deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a life that reflects
- spiritual maturity.
- A clear calling to pastoral ministry.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Doctrinal alignment with the ECC’s statement of faith and core beliefs.
- A formal theological background and/or previous pastoral experience is an asset.
